The Serengeti Lounge Chair was designed exclusively for JANUS et Cie by internationally renowned designer, Philippe Starck. A study in sophistication and substance, the lounge chair is crafted of solid, premium teak, and features clean lines and visible joinery that evoke Craftsman and Scandinavian modern influences. Sturdy, weather-tested, canvas sling mesh compose the seat and back in elegant Gazelle, a rich taupe, topped by deeply comfortable, welted cushions. The lounge chair is low slung with generous proportions for exceptional relaxation and offers flat, wide planked armrests that can accommodate a book or beverage. Inspired by the majesty of the African savanna, the Serengeti collection was envisioned as a timeless respite to be enjoyed today and for generations yet to come.

Frame & Rope

The aluminum frame features a proprietary powder-coated finish that creates a protective, weather-resistant, rustproof, and UV-inhibiting barrier far more durable than conventional paint. The frame includes precision welds and reinforced stress points to offer strong support and maintain shape across years of demanding use.

The seating surfaces feature intricately handwoven olefin rope, engineered using high-quality pigment with excellent UV, stain, and mold resistance. These ropes have the same warm look and soft texture as high-end fabrics. They are environmentally friendly, endlessly durable, and suitable for outdoor locations where conventional materials would deteriorate over time.

The nylon glides can be fixed, adjustable or even self-leveling, and protect floors from scratches, reduce noise, and allow furniture to move smoothly without damaging surfaces.

The Premium Collection features an extensive array of patterns, textures, and colors — including hand-silkscreened designs in proprietary pigments — developed for outdoor durability but equally suited for refined interior spaces. The Standards Collection includes weather-resistant, solution-dyed acrylic fabrics in a wide range of colors.

Cushion Fill

The cushions have been engineered for maximum water drainage and air circulation. They feature an open-cell, quick-dry foam wrapped in high-quality poly fibers made from recycled post-consumer plastics.
