Purchasing Manager

The sales team, partnered with its backup sales support, is peerless and top-class in the industry. Established furniture manufacturer has a position for an experienced Buyer who will be responsible for the negotiating and purchasing of finished goods and materials, sales analysis and forecasting, and maintaining inventory levels to support product sell through. Candidate should have strong negotiation and communication skills as well as the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.

This position reports to the Director of Product Management.


• Place buys for assortment in accordance with overall company strategies, brand growth, and financial plans.
• Issue Purchase Orders to ensure that products are purchased and in stock based on sales history, SKU performance, trends, inventory needs, sales feedback, and special order requests maintaining control of orders and acknowledgements by working directly with factories and suppliers.
• Purchase and schedule materials to meet production requirements as needed
• Work directly with factories and suppliers to resolve any related issues in a timely manner, reducing the impact on operations and overall gross profit.
• Provide quarterly recaps of current inventory level and inventory turns status to upper management and timely sales reports as requested.
• Communicate current inventory status to the Sales and Sales Support teams.
• Negotiate deliveries and purchase agreements with vendors.
• Analyze, report, and react to daily sales.
• Analyze current planning and reporting tools, and propose ideas for how to improve the quality of reporting as necessary.
• Communicate delivery issues to Product Management team, Customer Service and Sales personnel.
• Strong knowledge of vendors and the products they supply.
• Knowledge of Competitor and market pricing is valued
• Strategize to promote inventory movement and reduce obsolete inventory levels on a continuous basis.
• Additional tasks as assigned by Director of Product Management


• B.S. or advanced degree preferred
• Minimum of 5 years buying, purchasing, and/or procurement experience and price negotiation skills required, within the furniture industry preferred.
• Knowledge of competitor and marketing pricing is valuable.
• International supply chain experience valuable.
• Understanding of global commodity pricing indexes.
• Strong sense of urgency and ability to prioritize
• Team player willing to work with other departments within the organization, such as Sales, Client Services and Accounting
• Inventory management experience
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written), organizational, analytical and planning skills
• Experience using a variety of computer programs and ERP systems
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
