Under the direction of the Director of Product Design, the Product Engineer will drive engineering programs in new furniture development. He/she will work on projects from design through production to ensure program success. Specific responsibilities include:
• Lead factory validation, product assessment and inspection in coordination with suppliers, testing laboratories and internal teams.
• Support a cross-functional team and coordinate activities with production, supply chain, quality and reliability teams.
• Create mechanical drawings from selected/approved design concepts when required.
• Work closely with factory engineering to ensure manufacturing feasibility.
• Provide technical and project leadership to resolve production yield and manufacturability issues.
• Manage production costs.
• Track project development and ensure timely deliverables.
• Act as the technical lead and liaise between Product and Industrial Design, Product Management & Supply Networks.
• Work closely with in-house production team to prepare test plans and reports, including tracking results.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering required; advanced degree is a plus
• 5-10 years of furniture development experience
• Experience with furniture manufacturing in metal (aluminum/stainless steel), wood, hand weaving and extruded synthetics
• Proven track record of success with a strong portfolio
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Bilingual in both English and Chinese (written & spoken); knowledge of Bahasa Melayu is a plus
• International operations experience
• Ability to travel on a frequent basis for work
• Proficient in Autodesk Inventor, Pro-E, Solidworks or AutoCAD; must be able to produce production drawings
• Proficiency in FEA analysis is a plus
• Knowledge of Adobe Suite software is a plus
