Just a short walk from the Trevi Fountain and up the swanky Via Veneto, The Westin Excelsior Rome offers a healthy dose of opulence balanced by relaxed Italian design. Playing host to distinguished politicians, celebrities, and artists throughout the years since its opening in 1906, the hotel has been revered for its baroque architecture and famed Villa La Cupola Suite.

At 10,000 square feet, the impressive Villa La Cupola has quite the reputation as a pillar of European luxury—the two-story suite is known for being one of the most expensive hotel rooms in the world. And no expense has been spared in creating the suite’s unforgettable interior and exterior spaces, which recently underwent a full-scale renovation. Originally designed by American architect Michael Stelea in 1998, Villa La Cupola’s recent update, led by Pascale Julian, Corporate Director of Interior Design at Katara Hospitality, considered every little detail—from the Pompeii-style jacuzzi pool, hand-painted frescoes, and stained-glass windows. The suite takes up two floors and sits within the hotel’s iconic frescoed, renaissance-inspired cupola, which forms the domed ceiling for the Villa’s dramatic living room.

Not to be overshadowed by the ultra-luxurious interior, the suite’s superb rooftop terrace has remarkable panoramic views of the Roman skyline. With ample lounge spaces, lush vertical gardens, and quintessentially Italian furnishings, the outdoors are just as extraordinary as the interior.
